Researched Medal for Combat Merit "886277"
- Suspension: Double Steel
Very nice researched medal for Combat Merit. The medal is numbered 886277 and was awarded February 1944. The medal is made out of solid silver and comes with its original double layered steel suspension. The medal is in good condition with some of its red enamel still present.
The medal for Combat Merit was awarded on 12 February 1944 to Guard Sergeant Major Anatoly Pavlovitch Murashkin, chief of an RSB radio set in the 7th Independent Guards Communications Company attached to the 6th Guards Fighter Division of the 8th Air Army. The RSB was installed in bombers as well as on the ground. Murashkin used the latter. Murashkin entered military service in 1941 and, according to the nomination, developed into a skilled
radio specialist, and for that reason he was eventually appointed chief of a radio set. He served at Stalingrad, where he supported the division, then called the 268th Fighter Division. He effaced himself and once sat behind the radio set for 48 hours continuously. During the Soviet offensive at Rostov and Kotelnikovo, the installation in which Murashkin and his radio
set were located was bombed by German bombers, but Murashkin
continued to work calmly, kept the network in the air and managed to guide the fighters to the enemy planes. His radio set was never damaged and he sent all radiograms without delay. Murashkin was considered an authority within his company and actively transferred his knowledge to the other radio personnel.
The medal comes with scans of the original award citation. Although the medal is researched it definitely deserves some more research. Excellent researched medal for Combat Merit in great condition! No repairs, no damage!
